Ferro silicon, as an important ferro alloy, is widely used in the metallurgical industry. Ferrosilicon grades are divided into four categories, totaling 40 grades. Among them, there are 9 grades of high-silicon ferro silicon, 10 grades of ordinary ferrosilicon, 8 grades of low-aluminum ferrosilicon, and 13 grades of high-purity ferrosilicon.

 

Different countries have different standards for grading ferrosilicon alloys, such as China's GB/T 2272, Europe's EN ISO 5445, the United States' ASTM A100, and Russia's GOST 1415. For example, according to China's GB/T 2272 standard, FeSi 75-A has a silicon content of ≥75%, an aluminum content of ≤1.5%, and a carbon content of ≤0.2%, and is primarily used in the production of high-grade steel. FeSi 75-C has a silicon content of ≥72%, an aluminum content of ≤2%, and a carbon content of ≤0.4%, and can be used for general steelmaking.

 

Key Features

Product Categories

 

1. Low Silicon Ferroalloy

Silicon content: usually between 15% and 30%.
Use: Mainly used for deoxidation, desulfurization and other purposes, often used in the production of low-silicon steel, and relatively widely used.


2. Medium Silicon Ferroalloy

Silicon content: approximately between 30% and 55%.
Use: Medium Silicon Ferroalloy is generally used in the production of alloy steel and other special alloys that require a certain silicon content, and plays a role in deoxidation, adjusting composition and improving the performance of steel.


3. High Silicon Ferroalloy

Silicon content: usually between 55% and 90%.
Uses: High silicon ferrosilicon is often used in the production of silicon steel, iron silicon alloy, etc., especially in the power and electronics industries, which helps to improve the magnetic and electrical conductivity of steel.


4. Ultra-High Silicon Ferroalloy

Silicon content: higher than 90%, sometimes up to 95% or higher.
Uses: used in the production of special steel alloys, silicon steel and other special materials, and can also be used in the production of silicon aluminum alloys.


5. Special classification of ferrosilicon

Ferrosilicon Powder: exists in powder form and is often used in certain metallurgical processes.
Ferrosilicon Alloys: includes other alloy products based on silicon, such as silicon manganese alloy, chromium silicon alloy, etc.
Low aluminum ferrosilicon: an alloy made by adding a certain amount of aluminum to ferrosilicon alloy, in which the aluminum content needs to be marked. Low aluminum ferrosilicon has advantages in certain specific applications, such as improving the corrosion resistance of steel.

Role in steelmaking

It is used as a deoxidizer and alloying agent in the steelmaking industry. In order to obtain steel with qualified chemical composition and ensure the quality of steel, deoxidation must be carried out in the final stage of steelmaking. The chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen is very large, so ferrosilicon is a strong deoxidizer for steelmaking for precipitation and diffusion deoxidation.

Role in cast iron

It is used as an inoculant and spheroidizer in the cast iron industry. Cast iron is an important metal material in modern industry. It is cheaper than steel, easy to melt and smelt, has excellent casting properties and much better shock resistance than steel. Adding a certain amount of ferrosilicon to cast iron can prevent the formation of carbides in iron and promote the precipitation and spheroidization of graphite. Therefore, in the production of ductile iron, ferrosilicon is an important inoculant and spheroidizer.

Role in ferroalloy production

It is used as a reducing agent in ferroalloy production. Not only is the chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen very large, but the carbon content of high-silicon ferrosilicon is also very low. Therefore, high silicon ferrosilicon is a commonly used reducing agent in the ferroalloy industry when producing low carbon ferroalloys.

Other uses

Ground or atomized ferrosilicon powder can be used as a suspension phase in the mineral processing industry. It can be used as a coating for welding rods in the welding rod manufacturing industry.
