What is an alloy additives? What are the commonly used alloy additives?

Alloy additives are additives used to improve the properties of metal materials. They can improve the comprehensive properties of metal materials by changing the structure, properties and functions of metal materials.

The main components of alloy additives are metallic elements, such as copper, iron, nickel, cobalt, molybdenum, etc., and non-metallic elements, such as carbon, sulfur, phosphorus, etc. The combination and proportion of these elements can change the structure of metal materials, thereby improving the performance of metal materials.

Alloy additives offer the following advantages:

1. It can improve the strength, hardness, toughness, wear resistance, corrosion resistance and other properties of metal materials.

2. It can change the structure of metal materials, thereby improving the electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, magnetic properties and other properties of metal materials.

3. It can improve the processing performance of metal materials, making it easier to process metal materials into various shapes and sizes.

4. It can reduce the cost of metal materials and improve the application scope of metal materials.

Functions of alloy additives of different elements

1. Control the carbon content of steel and alloy additives

①. The role of silicon (Si): It can reduce the oxidation of steel and enhance corrosion resistance. Applicable to many types of alloy steel. Changes in silicon content have a great impact on the performance and quality of alloy steel, usually between 1-3%.

②. The role of manganese (Mn): It can reduce the carbon content of steel and improve the strength of steel. In addition, manganese also has a great impact on the wear resistance and fatigue resistance of steel. The manganese content in most steels is between 0.15-1.5%.

③. The role of vanadium (V): It is mainly used to control the carbon content of steel and improve the hardness and wear resistance of steel. The vanadium content in steel is usually between 0.15-0.25%.

2. Add corrosion-resistant alloy additives

①. The role of titanium (Ti): It can improve the corrosion resistance and heat resistance of steel. The titanium content in steel is usually between 0.10-0.20%.

②. The role of nickel (Ni): It can improve the corrosion resistance, heat resistance and strength of steel, and can improve the weldability of steel. The nickel content in most steels is between 1.5-3%.

3. Alloy additives to increase strength and heat resistance

①. The role of molybdenum (Mo): It can significantly improve the heat resistance and strength of steel, and also has a certain impact on the toughness of steel.

②. The role of chromium (Cr): It can greatly improve the hardness, strength and wear resistance of steel. Chromium is the main alloying element of stainless steel, and the chromium content in most steels is between 0.5-2.5%.

4. Other alloy additives

①. Phosphorus (P): Mainly used to improve the processing performance and forgeability of steel, and also improve the brittleness of steel. Some high-strength low-temperature steels basically contain phosphorus, usually between 0.05-1.5%.

②. Boron (B): Mainly used in special steel types to improve the hardness and wear resistance of steel.

The downstream products of alloy element additives are mainly aluminum alloys and steel. Commonly used alloying element additives in aluminum alloy manufacturing include manganese agents, titanium agents, silicon agents, iron agents, chromium agents, etc.; commonly used alloying element additives in steel manufacturing include ferromanganese composite element additives, ferrochromium composite element additives, ferrosilicon composite Element additives, silicon-manganese composite element additives, etc.
