Product Introduction

Ordinary 75 ferrosilicon typically contains 1%-2% aluminum, while our product controls the aluminum content to four levels: 0.3%, 0.5%, 0.8%, and 1.0%.

Why invest the effort in reducing aluminum? Because aluminum forms alumina inclusions in steel. These inclusions are hard and brittle, causing three problems:

Stamping cracking: This is the biggest concern for customers making automotive steel sheets.

Reduced fatigue life: This is a major concern for customers making spring steel and bearing steel.

Continuous casting nozzle blockage: Alumina can adhere to the inner wall of the nozzle during casting, causing casting interruptions.

Therefore, if you are producing steel grades requiring high purity (automotive steel sheets, electrical steel, spring steel, bearing steel), you must use low aluminum ferrosilicon.

We classify low al ferrosilicon into four grades based on aluminum content. You can see the aluminum requirements for your steel grade to match:

Al 0.3: Aluminum content ≤ 0.3%. This is the highest grade, specifically for electrical steel (silicon steel) and automotive IF steel. This type of steel is extremely sensitive to aluminum content; an excess of 0.01% can render it unusable.

Al 0.5: Aluminum content ≤ 0.5%. This grade is commonly used by customers making automotive DP steel, TRIP steel, and pipeline steel.

Al 0.8: Aluminum content ≤ 0.8%. This grade is sufficient for customers making spring steel, bearing steel, and mold steel.

Al 1.0: Aluminum content ≤ 1.0%. This grade is used by customers making ordinary alloy steel and low alloy steel; it's cleaner than ordinary ferrosilicon and not too expensive.

FeSi75 Low Al Product features

1. No Cracking During Stamping

A customer who manufactures automotive steel sheets was experiencing frequent cracking during stamping using ordinary ferrosilicon (Al 1.5%). After we suggested switching to Al 0.5%, the scrap rate decreased by 30%. The customer subsequently transferred all their orders to us.

2. Energy Saving

A customer manufacturing transformer cores has very high requirements for the magnetic properties of silicon steel. The small amount of aluminum in ordinary fesi alloy forms alumina inclusions at grain boundaries, increasing iron losses (wasting electricity). Switching to Al 0.3 reduced iron losses by 15%, significantly improving the transformer's energy efficiency rating.

3. Continuous Casting

Clogged nozzles in continuous casting are a major headache for many steel mills. The culprit is alumina. Using low al fesi can extend nozzle life by 30%-50%, reducing the number of nozzle replacements and allowing for more heats of steel to be cast.

4. Stable Composition

Ordinary ferrosilicon, due to its crude smelting process, exhibits large fluctuations in aluminum content between batches. Our low aluminum fesi has aluminum content fluctuations controlled within ±0.05% in each batch, so you don't have to change the formula every day.

FeSi75 Low Al Application field

1. Automotive Steel (IF Steel, DP Steel, TRIP Steel)

This is the largest market for low-aluminum ferrosilicon. Automotive steel has extremely high requirements for stamping performance, and alumina inclusions are one of the main culprits of stamping cracks.

Recommended Grade: Al 0.3 or Al 0.5

How to Use: Added as a final deoxidizer and alloying agent in RH refining furnaces.

2. Electrical Steel (Silicon Steel, used for transformers and motor cores)

Silicon steel is extremely sensitive to inclusions because inclusions pin magnetic domain walls, increasing iron losses.

Recommended Grade: Al 0.3

How to Use: As an alloying additive to adjust the silicon content.

3. Pipeline Steel (X70, X80, etc.)

Pipeline steel must withstand high pressure and maintain toughness at low temperatures, making it very sensitive to inclusions.

Recommended Grade: Al 0.5

How to Use: Combined with calcium treatment to transform alumina into low-melting-point calcium aluminate.

4. Spring Steel and Bearing Steel

These steels have extremely high requirements for fatigue life. Even a micron-sized alumina inclusion can be the starting point of a fatigue crack.

Recommended Grade: Al 0.5 or Al 0.8

5. High-End Stainless Steel (304, 316L)

Customers using automotive exhaust pipes and food-grade stainless steel have high requirements for surface quality and corrosion resistance.

Recommended Grade: Al 0.8 or Al 1.0

FAQ

Q: What's the price difference between Al 0.3, 0.5, 0.8, and 1.0?

A: The lower the aluminum content, the higher the production cost and the more expensive it is. Al 0.3 is significantly more expensive than Al 1.0. Therefore, before buying, please carefully consider: what aluminum content do you actually need for your steel grade? Don't waste money.

Q: Can you consistently maintain an Al 0.3 content below 0.3%? I'm worried that this batch might be 0.25% and the next 0.35%.

A: Yes. We test each batch with a spectrometer before shipment to ensure the aluminum content is within your required range, with fluctuations controlled within ±0.05%. A test report is included with the shipment. Customers making automotive and electrical steel have the highest requirements for batch stability, and we have served many of them without any problems.

Q: Can I buy Al 0.2?

A: Customization is possible, but the price will be higher, and the delivery time may be longer. Most customers find Al 0.3 sufficient. If your steel has special requirements for aluminum content (such as high-end electrical steel), we can make a special batch.
