Silicon metal 441 is a common grade of silicon metal and is widely used in industrial production. The "441" in Silicon 441 represents the specific impurity content standard of the product. The first "4" means that the Fe content does not exceed 0.4%, the second "4" means that the Al content does not exceed 0.4%, and the last "1" means that the Ca content does not exceed 0.1%. Si is the main component, and its content is usually around 99%, and the rest are other trace impurity elements.

Production process

Raw material preparation
The main raw materials are high-purity quartz (silicon dioxide content is usually required to be above 99%) and high-quality carbonaceous reducing agent (such as petroleum coke, charcoal, etc.). Quartz needs to be screened and crushed to ensure uniform size, and carbonaceous reducing agent also needs to be pretreated to remove impurities and adjust its size.

Electric furnace smelting
The prepared raw materials are added to the submerged arc furnace in a certain proportion and reduced at high temperature (generally 1800-2000℃). In this process, the carbon in the carbonaceous reducing agent reacts with the silicon dioxide in the quartz to generate silicon and carbon monoxide. By precisely controlling parameters such as furnace temperature, raw material ratio, electrode insertion depth, etc., the reaction is ensured to be fully carried out to obtain silicon metal that meets the 441 grade specifications.

Refining and purification
The crude silicon obtained by smelting may contain some impurities and needs to be refined. Common refining methods include blowing and stirring, adding refining agents, etc., through which impurity elements such as Fe, Al, and Ca are further removed, and the purity of silicon is improved to reach the grade standard of silicon metal 441.

Casting
After the refined silicon liquid reaches the specified temperature and composition, it is poured into a specific mold for casting and molding to form the required lump or granular products. During the casting process, it is necessary to control the cooling speed to avoid defects such as cracks in the product.
Product Uses
Aluminum alloy industry
It is an important additive in aluminum alloy production. Adding an appropriate amount of 441 silicon metal to aluminum alloy can improve the strength, hardness, heat resistance and wear resistance of aluminum alloy.
Organic silicon industry
As the basic raw material for the production of organic silicon compounds, Silicon 441 reacts with organic compounds such as methyl chloride to synthesize a variety of organic silicon products such as silicone oil, silicone rubber, silicone resin, etc. These organic silicon products have excellent high temperature resistance, low temperature resistance, aging resistance, insulation and other properties, and are widely used in electronic and electrical, construction, chemical, medical and other industries.
Semiconductor industry
Although the semiconductor industry has extremely high requirements for the purity of silicon, silicon metal grade 441 can be used as a primary raw material. After further purification processes (such as the Siemens method, fluidized bed method, etc.), high-purity polysilicon can be prepared, which can then be used to produce single crystal silicon and ultimately used in semiconductor fields such as integrated circuits and solar cells.
