Silicon metal lumps are large lumps cast from smelted silicon and then crushed into 10-100mm pieces. This size is the most commonly used specification in steel mills, aluminum alloy plants, and organosilicon plants.
Steelmaking and aluminum alloy smelting: Large blocks are easy to feed, produce no smoke, and won't be sucked away by dust collectors.
Organosilicon production: Buying large blocks and crushing them yourself is cheaper than buying powder directly.
Cost considerations: Large blocks require fewer processing steps and are cheaper than granules or powder of the same grade.

Products Description
Industrial silicon can be divided into different grades according to the silicon content and the content of main impurities in it. According to national standards, industrial silicon can be divided into 8 grades, among which Si553, Si441, Si421, Si411, etc. are more common in the market. Si5530 can be written as 553# in daily life. The last four digits of the grade represent the maximum content requirements of the main impurity elements iron, aluminum, and calcium in the product respectively. For example, the "4" in Si4210 represents that the iron content in industrial silicon is less than 0.4%, "2" represents that the aluminum content is less than 0.2%, and "10" represents that the calcium content is less than 0.10%.
The price of 553# is lower than that of 441# and 421#, the latter of which is closer to that of 3303#, and the price of 2202# is higher than that of 3303#. It can be seen that the lower the impurity content of industrial silicon, the higher the price, and the price difference of industrial silicon of different qualities is large. In addition, substandard silicon outside the scope of national standards has appeared on the market, such as 97 silicon and recycled silicon. The silicon content of 97 silicon is about 98%, and its use is similar to Si5530; recycled silicon is about 99%, which can replace Si4410, Si3303 and other specifications. The two only account for 9.35% of the total output of industrial silicon in my country.
