"331" silicon metal can be seen as an "upgraded version" of 441 silicon metal. While maintaining a silicon content of ≥99.0%, it tightens the control of iron and aluminum to ≤0.3%, making it purer than 441 (Al≤0.4%), but more affordable than 421 and 411.
Simply put, it's a golden middle ground: when the aluminum content of silicon441 doesn't meet your requirements for product purity, and the price of Si421 and Si411 exceeds your budget, silicon331 is the ideal balance.
Product Characteristics
Physical Properties: It has a silver-gray or dark-gray appearance with a metallic luster. Its high melting point, reaching 1410°C, allows it to maintain a stable physical form in high-temperature environments and resists melting deformation. It also exhibits excellent thermal resistance, capable of withstanding large temperature fluctuations without affecting its performance. It also possesses high resistivity and excellent oxidation resistance.
Chemical Properties: It is relatively stable, insoluble in water and common strong acids such as hydrochloric acid and nitric acid, but soluble in hydrofluoric acid and alkali solutions. In specific industrial chemical reactions, it can react with other substances based on its chemical properties to achieve desired production goals.

Application of Silicon Metal 331
1. High-Quality Organosilicon Synthesis
In the production of organosilicon products such as silicone oils and silicone rubbers, the aluminum content in the raw material metallic silicon is crucial to the reaction rate and catalyst lifespan. 331, with aluminum content controlled at ≤0.3%, minimizes catalyst poisoning compared to 441 (Al≤0.4%), resulting in a more stable reaction and better product transparency. It is also less expensive than 421 and is a "mainstay material" for many organosilicon manufacturers.
2. Precision Aluminum Alloy Casting
For precision aluminum alloy castings used in aerospace or automotive applications, both iron and aluminum are elements that require strict control. Excessive iron forms hard, brittle needle-like phases, affecting strength and toughness; excessive aluminum affects alloy fluidity. 331's low iron (≤0.3%) and controllable aluminum (≤0.3%) help produce high-end aluminum alloys with more stable quality.
3. Special Steels and Alloy Additives
When smelting high-strength steels, stainless steels, or special alloys that require high purity, adding 331 metallic silicon can effectively prevent excessive impurities from being introduced by ordinary ferrosilicon (such as 553), ensuring the final performance of the steel. The advantages of 331 are particularly evident in steel grades where aluminum content needs to be controlled.

Product Features
High purity:
The silicon content is as high as 99.1% or above. This high purity enables silicon 331 to provide products with more stable and high-quality basic performance in applications. In the electronics industry, high-purity silicon is a key material for manufacturing semiconductor devices. Small differences in impurity content may have a significant impact on the electrical properties of semiconductors. The high purity of silicon metal grade 331 just meets the stringent requirements for materials in this field.
Good chemical stability:
At room temperature and pressure, 331 grade silicon metal is not easy to react chemically with other substances and has good chemical stability. This feature makes it relatively safe during storage and transportation. At the same time, in some industrial environments that require long-term stable use, it can maintain its own performance stability and is not easily corroded or oxidized. In chemical production, when used as a lining material or catalyst carrier for a reaction vessel, its chemical stability can ensure that it does not react with reactants or catalysts in a complex chemical environment, thereby ensuring the smooth progress of the production process.
Unique physical properties:
With its high melting point and good heat resistance, 331 metal silicon can withstand high temperature environments without melting or deformation, which makes it important for applications in refractory materials, high-temperature industrial furnaces, etc. Its high resistivity makes it useful in the manufacture of electrical insulation materials and some electronic components with special requirements for electrical properties. The hard and brittle characteristics of silicon 331 also have certain advantages in some application scenarios that require wear resistance and impact resistance. For example, in the abrasive industry, its hardness can be used to grind other materials.

FAQ
Q: What's the difference between 331 and 441? How should I choose?
A: The core difference lies in the aluminum and iron content. 441 has ≤0.4% iron and aluminum, while 331 has ≤0.3%. If your product is a common aluminum alloy or general silicone, 441 is sufficient and offers the best cost-performance ratio. However, if your product has strict export requirements, or you produce precision alloys or high-end silicone, then 331 is a more reliable choice-pay a little more for quality assurance.
Q: Which is better, 331 or 421?
A: There's no absolute better or worse; it depends on how strictly you control the aluminum content. 421 reduces aluminum to ≤0.2%, making it purer than 331, but also more expensive. 331 has ≤0.3% aluminum. If your process isn't sensitive to this range of aluminum content, then 331 is a more economical choice than 421.
Q: Is the quality of your 331 consistent between batches?
A: Consistency is key. Before each batch of our 331 silicon metal leaves the factory, we use a spectrometer to analyze its composition to ensure that the iron, aluminum, and calcium content is consistently within your required range. A material certificate will be provided with the shipment, and you can also conduct random checks yourself at any time.
