Production Process:

Electric Furnace Reduction: SiO2 (quartz/silica) and a carbonaceous reducing agent (such as petroleum coke) are reduced at high temperature in a submerged arc furnace. The crude silicon is then refined, crushed, and graded. Oxygen is introduced during the smelting process, preferentially oxidizing Al and Ca to reduce their content.
