0-3mm fine-particle ferrosilicon alloy is a fesi alloy with specially processed size, and its silicon (Si) content covers multiple grades ranging from 65% to 95%. Its fine and uniform size gives it excellent dissolution efficiency and precise alloying control in processes requiring rapid reaction and uniform distribution, such as steel refining, special casting, and high-end alloy preparation.
0-3mm ferrosilicon is not a single product, but rather refers to a specific size range. Its performance is based on its chemical composition, and users can select the appropriate grade according to different application scenarios.
Some customers require 0-1mm , while others require 1-3mm.
0-1mm (powder-like): Reacts faster, suitable for powder coating, in-flow incubation, and cored wire.
1-3mm (granular): Has good flowability, suitable for automatic feeding, incubation in iron troughs, and bottom-filling.

How to select the size ratio for 0-3mm ferrosilicon?

1. Iron and Steel Smelting: A Powerful Tool for Efficient Deoxidation and Precise Alloying
Ladle Refining (LF Furnace, RH Furnace): During ladle refining, 0-3mm ferrosilicon particles are fed deep into the molten steel via a wire feeder or injection system. The fine particles dissolve extremely quickly, resulting in a large reaction area, enabling efficient deoxidation and precise fine-tuning of silicon composition. This is particularly suitable for producing special steel grades with stringent composition control, such as spring steel, bearing steel, and electrical steel.
Converter/Electric Furnace Tapping Process: Added with the steel stream during tapping, the fine particles melt rapidly and diffuse evenly, reducing drift loss and increasing silicon yield (stable above 92%), thus lowering alloy consumption costs.
2. Foundry Industry: A Key Additive for Improving Cast Iron Quality
In-flow Inoculation and In-mold Inoculation: 0-3mm (especially 1-3mm) size is ideal for in-flow inoculation processes. During the molten iron pouring process, ferrosilicon particles are uniformly added via a metering device, instantly dissolving and providing numerous nucleation sites. This strongly promotes graphitization, effectively preventing white cast iron formation, refining the graphite structure, and significantly improving the strength and machinability of castings (such as engine blocks, brake discs, and hydraulic components).
Inoculation treatment of ductile iron: Used in conjunction with spheroidizing agents, fine-particle ferrosilicon stabilizes the spheroidization effect, improves the roundness and number of graphite spheres, and ensures the reliability of ductile iron performance.
3. Other high-end and special applications
Magnesium smelting (Pidgeon process): As a core reducing agent, 0-3mm high-silicon ferrosilicon (such as FeSi75 or FeSi90) can more efficiently reduce magnesium oxide under high-temperature vacuum conditions due to its large specific surface area, improving magnesium yield and production efficiency.
Electrode and wire core manufacturing: 0-1mm ferrosilicon powder is an important alloying additive in electrode coatings and wire cores, used to transition silicon to the weld metal, improving the weld metal's fluidity, strength, and slag removal properties. Iron-based powder metallurgy: As an alloying element additive, it is uniformly mixed into iron powder to prepare high-strength powder metallurgy structural parts.
