Ferrosilicon in electric furnaces is smelted by a slag-free method. The raw materials must be clean and must not be mixed with mud, sand and other impurities. Adding wood chips and coal to the charge can improve the performance of the charge. During the smelting process, the surface of the material is easy to crust and "fire" (the surface of the material spits out fire), so the furnace must be "pounded" frequently. The furnace produces FeSi every 2 to 4 hours, and the ingot is cast into an ingot with a thickness of less than 100 mm in an ingot mold. Ferrosilicon is generally made using an open-top electric furnace.

 

In recent years, in order to prevent environmental pollution, "low hood" or "semi-enclosed" electric furnaces are often used to facilitate heat recovery, smoke and dust elimination; in the production of high-silicon ferro silicon (containing more than 75% silicon), rotary electric furnaces are mostly used to reduce Pound the furnace. The capacity of large-scale ferrosilicon electric furnaces is 10,000 to 96,000 kVA. The power consumption for ferrosilicon alloy production is approximately: 45% ferrosilicon, 5,000 kilowatt hours/ton; 75% ferrosilicon, 9,000 kilowatt hours/ton; 90% ferrosilicon, 14,000 kW·h/ton. In order to meet the requirement that the aluminum content of ferrosilicon in electrical steel should not be too high, refining methods such as oxygen blowing or chlorine blowing have been developed in recent years.

Ferro silicon is mainly used as a deoxidizer and alloying agent during steelmaking to eliminate excess oxygen and sulfur in molten steel and improve the quality and performance of steel. In addition to being used to make steel, ferrosilicon is also used to smelt magnesium metal.

1. Steel industry

Ferrosilicon, as an important iron alloy, is mainly used in the steel smelting industry. It can be used as a reducing agent and alloying element and added to steel furnaces to promote decarburization and deoxidation of steel, making the quality of steel better.
At the same time, ferrosilicon can also extend the flow time of slag, reduce slag viscosity, and improve production efficiency.

2. Foundry industry

Ferrosilicon is also widely used in the foundry industry. It can increase the silicon content in iron, copper, and nickel-based alloys, and improve the alloy's tensile strength, heat resistance, and corrosion resistance.
In addition, ferrosilicon can also be used as a desulfurizer to absorb and reduce gases (such as oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, etc.) in castings and promote the solidification of castings.

3. Chemical industry

As an important chemical raw material, ferrosilicon is also widely used in organic silicon, silicone oil, silicone rubber, diatomaceous earth and other industries. Ferrosilicon can be used as a polymer reinforcement to improve the wear resistance and aging resistance of products.
At the same time, ferrosilicon can also increase the oxidation stability and increment of oil and improve oil quality.
