Ferro Phosphorus(FeP)

Ferro Phosphorus(FeP)

Ferrophosphorus is obtained from phosphorus-making electric furnaces. It is a symbiotic compound containing 20-26% phosphorus and 0.1-6% silicon, which can change the corrosion resistance and chipping properties of steel. Ferro phosphorus is used as an alloying agent in the steelmaking industry and can also produce phosphates.

Product Introduction

Ferro Phosphorus (short name FeP) is phosphorus-bearing ferroalloy smelted in phosphorus electric furnace. It uses phosphate rock, coke and scrap iron as raw materials, forms iron-phosphorus intermetallic compound with stable phosphorus content (15~29%).

Phosphorus has dual metallurgical characteristics: as harmful impurity for most structural steel, but targeted functional additive for free-cutting steel, wear-resistant cast iron and anti-corrosion sheet. For example, adding phosphorus to some steel types can improve the strength, corrosion resistance and processability of the steel, but it also increases the brittleness of the steel.

FeP Unique Advantages vs Conventional Ferrosilicon

Performance Index Ferro Phosphorus FeP Ordinary FeSi Deoxidizer Production Benefit
Deoxidation Speed Fast, low melting slag Slow, high melting point Short ladle refining cycle
Free-Cutting Effect Exclusive phosphorus grain boundary segregation No cutting improvement Reduce post-processing cost
Cast Fluidity Boost 15–20% viscosity reduction Minor improvement Higher casting yield
Defect Risk Overdose leads to cold brittleness Safe for all steel types Must control addition amount

Products Uses

1. Steelmaking industry:

As an alloying agent: Ferrophosphorus is mainly used as an alloying agent in the steelmaking industry, which can significantly improve the strength, corrosion resistance and processability of steel. However, the addition of phosphorus will also increase the brittleness of steel, so it needs to be added in an appropriate amount according to the needs of the specific steel type.

Rapid deoxidation: Ferrophosphorus has the advantage of rapid deoxidation. Putting a certain proportion of ferrophosphorus into molten steel can quickly deoxidize, saving deoxidation time and costs, and improving steelmaking efficiency.

Slag collecting agent:Ferrophosphorus can also be used as a slag collecting agent to effectively aggregate oxides in molten steel, filter impurities in molten steel, and improve the purity of molten steel.

2. Foundry industry:

Improve the fluidity of molten iron:Adding an appropriate amount of phosphorus iron during the casting process can improve the fluidity of molten iron, thereby improving the performance and surface quality of castings.

Improve wear resistance:Wear-resistant cast iron contains about 0.15% phosphorus, which can significantly improve its wear resistance.

Other applications:

Radioactive radiation protection:Phosphorus iron is also a protective material against radioactive radiation.

3. Counterweight material:

Due to its large specific gravity, phosphorus iron can also be used as a counterweight material.

4. Coating raw materials:

After phosphorus iron containing 20% phosphorus is ground into ultra-fine powder, it can be used as coating instead of ultra-fine zinc powder.

FAQ

H2:Professional Steel & Foundry Technical FAQ
Q1: What steel types need ferro phosphorus additive?
A: Free-cutting machinery steel, wear-resistant gray iron, anti-corrosion sheet; structural low-tough steel cannot add excess FeP to avoid cold brittleness.
Q2: Standard FeP addition dosage for free-cutting steel?
A: Control final molten steel phosphorus 0.08~0.15%, calculate FeP input based initial P content of scrap steel.
Q3: Which Fe grade for wear-resistant brake castings?
A: FeP29 high-phosphorus grade, form uniform hard eutectic network to boost abrasion resistance.
Q4: Free test samples & delivery cycle?
A: Free 1–5kg test samples available. Standard stock goods:7–15 working days; customized high-Ti low-impurity FeP:20–30 days, MOQ 25 tons full container, T/T & L/C payment supported.
