Ferrochrome is an ferro alloy consisting of chromium and iron. It is an important alloy additive for steelmaking. Ferrochrome is divided into high carbon ferrochrome (carbon content 4~8%), medium carbon ferrochrome (carbon content 0.5~4%), low carbon ferrochrome (carbon content 0.15~0.50%) according to different carbon content. Micro-carbon Ferrochrome (carbon content is 0.06%), ultra-micro carbon Ferrochrome (carbon content is less than 0.03%), silicon-chromium alloy, nitride ferrochrome, etc.

Ferrochrome is an ferro alloy consisting of chromium and iron. It is an important alloy additive for steelmaking. The carbon content of low carbon ferrochrome is 0.15~0.50%. Mainly used for producing medium and low carbon structural steel, carburizing steel, and manufacturing gears. The lower the carbon content of ferrochrome, the more difficult it is to refining, consume more electricity, and increase the cost.

The chromium in steel is added using ferrochrome. Low-carbon ferrochrome has a low density when used, but it has high strength and good rigidity; it can improve the oxidation resistance of steel and increase the corrosion resistance of steel; at the same time, it has low heat capacity, fast solidification speed, and good die-casting performance.

It should be noted that low carbon ferrochrome contains 30% gas (mainly N2 and H2). When used for steelmaking, these gases will float at the interface between molten steel and slag, increasing the combustion loss of chromium. Reduce recovery rates; iron-chromium-containing bubbles can cause significant metal loss during crushing and packaging. Vacuum treatment of low carbon ferrochrome is a casting process that reduces the alloy gas content. Put the molten iron ladle filled with liquid ferrochrome into the vacuum chamber. After sealing, use a vacuum pump to evacuate for about 5 to 7 minutes, and the vacuum degree reaches 10.6 kPa to 13.3 kPa. Then break the vacuum, take out the molten iron ladle, and cast it again to achieve the purpose of reducing inclusions and gases, making the surface smooth and flat, and reducing breakage and packaging losses.
