99.7% pure electrolytic manganese flakes are the most widely used and mainstream grade on the market. It has higher purity than 99.5% and is cheaper than 99.8%, making it the first choice for many stainless steel, special steel, and aluminum alloy plants.

 

99.5%: Lowest purity, cheapest price. Suitable for use as an additive in ordinary carbon steel and in the production of manganese salts. However, stainless steel plants generally don't use it due to its higher impurity content.

99.7%: This is the highest-volume grade. Used by stainless steel, special steel, and aluminum alloy plants. It offers the best balance between purity and price.

99.8%: Highest purity, most expensive. Used by customers producing battery materials (lithium manganese oxide, ternary materials) and high-end electrical steel.

 

In short, if you're dealing with:

 200 series and 300 series stainless steel

 high-strength low-alloy steel

 3003 and 3104 aluminum alloys

 welding materials and manganese salts

 

therefore, if you're not making batteries or ordinary carbon steel, then 99.7 is the most suitable grade. More than half of our daily shipments are of this grade.

Electrolyte preparation: The purified manganese sulfate solution is used as the electrolyte, and a certain amount of additives such as ammonium sulfate and magnesium sulfate are added to improve the conductivity, stability and cathode polarization performance of the electrolyte, improve the electrolysis efficiency and product quality.

Electrolysis operation: The prepared electrolyte is placed in the electrolytic cell and electrolyzed with an insoluble anode (such as a lead-silver alloy anode) and a cathode (usually a stainless steel plate). Under the action of direct current, manganese ions obtain electrons on the cathode surface to precipitate metallic manganese. During the electrolysis process, parameters such as current density, electrolyte temperature, and pH value need to be strictly controlled. Generally, the current density is controlled at 250-400A/m², the electrolyte temperature is maintained at 30-40℃, and the pH value is maintained between 3.5-5.0 to ensure the precipitation rate and purity of manganese.

Deoxidizer

In the steelmaking process, EMM Manganese Flakes 99.7 is one of the commonly used deoxidizers. Manganese has a strong affinity with oxygen and can effectively remove oxygen from molten steel, reduce the formation of oxide inclusions in steel, improve the purity of steel, reduce the brittleness of steel, and improve the quality of steel. 

Alloying agent

It is an important alloying element in steel. After adding, it can improve the strength, hardness, wear resistance and hardenability of steel. Manganese Flakes are widely used in the production of high-strength alloy steel, wear-resistant steel, spring steel and other steels. 

Aluminum alloy additive

In the production of aluminum alloys, adding an appropriate amount of Electrolytic Mn Flakes can refine the grains and improve the strength, hardness and corrosion resistance of aluminum alloys.

Q: How much is the difference between 99.7 and 99.5 stainless steel? Which should I buy?

A: 99.7 is slightly more expensive than 99.5, but many stainless steel customers have calculated the costs: using 99.5 results in higher impurities, making the surface quality of the stainless steel more prone to problems and increasing the scrap rate. Saving that small price difference isn't worthwhile. Therefore, we generally recommend that those in the stainless steel business should at least buy 99.7.

 

Q: Can you guarantee that the selenium content of your 99.7 is below 0.10%?

A: Yes. We test every batch before it leaves the factory to ensure the selenium content is below 0.10%. If you have special requirements (such as for battery manufacturing), we can supply 99.8, with a selenium content ≤0.06%.

 

Q: Is the quality of your electrolytic manganese flakes consistent between batches?

A: Consistency is paramount. We use a spectrometer to test every batch before it leaves the factory to ensure that the fluctuation range of manganese and impurity content is controlled within a very small range. A material certificate is included with the goods, and you can also conduct random checks yourself.

 

Q: Should I buy the sheet or the powder form?

A: For stainless steel, special steel, and aluminum alloy factories, just buy the sheet form; it melts quickly when thrown into a steel ladle. If you are making welding materials or need to prepare a solution, you can buy the powder form (40-500 mesh, customizable).
