Electrolytic manganese flakes with 99.7% purity are the most widely used and mainstream grade on the market. It has higher purity than EMM flakes 99.5% and is cheaper than EMM flakes 99.8%, making it the first choice for many stainless steel, special steel, and aluminum alloy plants.

 

Manganese metal flakes are commonly available in three grades: 99.5%, 99.7%, and 99.8. What are the differences between them? We've spoken with our long-term customers, and here's how they choose:

 

99.5%: Lowest purity, cheapest price. Suitable for use as an additive in ordinary carbon steel and for producing manganese salts. However, stainless steel plants generally don't use it because of its higher impurity content.

99.7%: This is the grade with the highest sales volume. Used by stainless steel, special steel, and aluminum alloy plants. It offers the best balance between purity and price.

99.8%: Highest purity, most expensive price. Used by customers making battery materials (lithium manganese oxide, ternary materials) and high-end electrical steel.

Q: How much is the difference between 99.7 and 99.5 stainless steel? Which should I buy?

A: 99.7 is slightly more expensive than 99.5, but many stainless steel customers have calculated the costs: using 99.5 results in higher impurities, making the surface quality of the stainless steel more prone to problems and increasing the scrap rate. Saving that small price difference isn't worthwhile. Therefore, we generally recommend that those in the stainless steel business should at least buy 99.7.

Q: Can you guarantee that the selenium content of your 99.7 is below 0.10%?

A: Yes. We test every batch before it leaves the factory to ensure the selenium content is below 0.10%. If you have special requirements (such as for battery manufacturing), we can supply 99.8, with a selenium content ≤0.06%.

Q: Is the quality of your electrolytic manganese sheets consistent between batches?

A: Consistency is paramount. We use a spectrometer to test every batch before it leaves the factory to ensure that the fluctuation range of manganese and impurity content is controlled within a very small range. A material certificate is included with the goods, and you can also conduct random checks yourself.

Q: Should I buy the sheet or the powder form?

A: For stainless steel, special steel, and aluminum alloy factories, just buy the sheet form; it melts quickly when thrown into a steel ladle. If you are making welding materials or need to prepare a solution, you can buy the powder form (40-500 mesh, customizable).
