Electrolytic manganese flakes with a manganese content of 99.7% are obtained by electrolysis from the manganese salt solution obtained by acid leaching of manganese ore. The manganese content reaches 99.7% after being made into flakes. It looks like iron, with irregular flakes, hard and brittle, shiny on one side and rough on the other side. The color is silvery white to brown, and it is silver gray after being processed into powder. It is easily oxidized in the air, dissolves and replaces hydrogen when it encounters dilute acid, and can decompose water and release hydrogen when it is slightly higher than room temperature.

Quality requirements of electrolytic manganese flakes in the steel industry
Chemical composition
Manganese content:
This is a key indicator to measure the quality of electrolytic manganese flakes. The steel industry usually requires the manganese content to be as high as possible, and usually requires the manganese content to reach 99.7% and above. High-purity manganese can effectively play its alloying role in steel and improve the strength, hardness, toughness and wear resistance of steel.
Carbon (C):
Too high carbon content will increase the hardness and reduce the toughness of steel, affecting the processing and use performance of steel. Generally, the carbon content in electrolytic manganese flakes is required to be controlled at a very low level, usually not exceeding 0.05%.
Sulfur (S) and phosphorus (P):
Sulfur and phosphorus are harmful elements in steel. Sulfur will cause hot brittleness of steel, and phosphorus will increase the cold brittleness of steel. The steel industry has strict restrictions on the sulfur and phosphorus content in electrolytic manganese flakes. The sulfur content is generally required to be no more than 0.03%, and the phosphorus content is generally required to be no more than 0.03%.
Iron (Fe):
Although iron is the main component of steel, iron in electrolytic manganese flakes is an impurity. Too much iron will affect the alloying effect of manganese in steel, and the iron content is generally required to be no more than 0.05%.
Other elements such as silicon (Si) and selenium (Se):
Too high silicon content may affect certain properties of steel, and is generally required to be no more than 0.1%; although selenium may be used as an additive in electrolytic manganese production, excessive selenium will also have an adverse effect on the performance of steel, and its content must also be controlled within an appropriate range.
Physical properties
Appearance:
The surface of the electrolytic manganese sheet should be flat, without obvious cracks, holes, slag inclusions and other defects. The electrolytic manganese sheet with a smooth surface can better blend with the molten steel when added to the molten steel, reducing the problem of uneven reaction caused by surface defects.
Size and shape:
The size and shape must meet certain standards. The thickness of common electrolytic manganese sheets is generally 1-3mm, and the side length or diameter is within a certain range. Uniform size and shape are conducive to accurate measurement and uniform addition to the molten steel, ensuring the stability of the steelmaking process and the consistency of product quality.
