Product Introduction

3303 silicon metal is specifically designed for aluminum alloy casting. The "3303" in the grade indicates: iron ≤ 0.3%, aluminum ≤ 0.3%, and calcium ≤ 0.03%.

Compared to ordinary silicon metal 553 (iron ≤ 0.5%, calcium ≤ 0.3%), 3303 significantly reduces both iron and calcium. What are the benefits?

Low iron: Iron forms hard, brittle needle-like phases in aluminum, reducing toughness and elongation. The lower the iron content, the less prone the aluminum alloy is to cracking.

Low calcium: Calcium affects the fluidity and refining effect of molten aluminum. The lower the calcium content, the smoother the casting process.

Therefore, if you are making high-end aluminum castings (automotive wheels, aerospace parts, precision components), silicon 3303 is the most suitable silicon source.

Impurities 553 3303 What's the difference?
Iron (Fe) ≤0.5% ≤0.3% For every 0.1% reduction in iron content, the elongation of the aluminum alloy can be significantly increased. This is what wheel manufacturers care about most.
Calcium (Ca) ≤0.3% ≤0.03% Calcium affects the refining effect of molten aluminum. 3303 aluminum has only one-tenth the calcium content of 553 aluminum.

Si3303 is more expensive than Si553. However, customers making high-end aluminum castings have calculated the costs and benefits: using 553, with its higher iron content, makes the castings more prone to cracking, increasing the scrap rate, making the small price difference not worthwhile.

Benefits and Applications in Aluminum Casting

1

Improves fluidity and mold filling capacity, reducing cold shut and under-pouring defects.

2

Refines eutectic silicon, improving casting density and airtightness, and reducing shrinkage potential.

3

Increases strength, hardness, and wear resistance while maintaining excellent casting and weldability.

4

Low B and P content and a thin oxide layer minimize negative impacts on aluminum liquid purity and conductivity, making it suitable for casting aluminum alloys sensitive to impurities.

Application in aluminum casting

High-end aluminum alloy casting

Due to its low impurity content, silicon 3303 is often used in high-end aluminum alloy casting fields, such as aluminum alloys for aerospace, aluminum alloys for high-performance automotive parts, etc. These fields have extremely high requirements for the performance of aluminum alloys. Low-impurity 3303 silicon metal can ensure that the alloy has good mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and processing performance. For example, in aerospace aluminum alloys, the use of silicon3303 can ensure that the alloy has high strength while having good toughness and fatigue resistance, meeting the use requirements of aviation parts under complex working conditions.

High-End Aluminum Alloy Casting

Aluminum alloys sensitive to impurities

For some special aluminum alloys that are extremely sensitive to impurities such as iron and calcium, silicon metal 3303 is an ideal silicon additive material. It can avoid the deterioration of alloy properties caused by excessive impurity content and ensure the quality stability and consistency of aluminum alloys. For example, in the production of some aluminum alloy wire and cable materials that require high conductivity and corrosion resistance, Si3303 can effectively control the impact of impurities on conductivity and corrosion resistance.

Selection and Usage Recommendations

1. How to choose size?

For smelting furnace charging: Use 10-50mm lumps; easy to add, no smoke.

For intermediate alloys: Use 1-10mm particles; melts quickly.

For powder spraying or special processes: Use 40-200 mesh powder.

2. Approximate dosage?

A356 (Silicon 6.5%-7.5%): Approximately 65-75 kg of silicon per ton of aluminum (depending on the proportion of recycled material).

ADC12 (Silicon 9.5%-12%): Approximately 95-120 kg of silicon per ton of aluminum.

3. Is batch stability important?

Very important. If the ferrosilicon content is 0.3% in one batch and 0.35% in the next, you'll have to work much harder to adjust the formula. We test each batch before shipment to ensure that the fluctuation range of iron, aluminum, and calcium is controlled within a very small range.

Products Description

Q: What's the difference between 3303 and 441? Which one should I buy?

A: silicon441 has iron ≤0.4%, aluminum ≤0.4%, and calcium ≤0.1%. 3303 has iron ≤0.3%, aluminum ≤0.3%, and calcium ≤0.03%. 3303 is purer than silicon metal 441, especially with significantly lower calcium content. Many customers making A356 and 6061 aluminum alloys find 441 sufficient; however, those making aviation aluminum alloys or high-end wheels need 3303.

Q: How much does 3303 differ from 553? Is it worth it?

A: 3303 is considerably more expensive than 553. Whether it's worth it depends on your product positioning. If your aluminum castings are expensive and have high performance requirements, spending more money on 3303 is definitely worthwhile. If you're making ordinary castings, 553 is sufficient.

Q: Is the quality of your 3303 consistent between batches?

A: Consistency is paramount. We use a spectrometer to test each batch of goods before they leave the factory to ensure that the fluctuation range of iron, aluminum, and calcium is controlled within a very small range. A material certificate is included with the goods, and you can also conduct random checks yourself.
