Product Introduction

Ferro silicon magnesium alloy is an alloy made by adding calcium, magnesium, and other elements to ferro silicon. Fesimg alloy is what we in the foundry industry commonly refer to as a spheroidizing agent. Its function is simple: to transform flake graphite into spheroids, making cast iron "tough" instead of "brittle". It is a light rare earth magnesium silicon ferro alloy with high mechanical strength and strong deoxidation and desulfurization properties.

Rare earth FeSiMg alloy is a high-performance alloy with various chemical compositions and grades, including specific mass fractions of elements such as RE,Mg,Ca,Si,Mn,Ti,Fe. For example, the mass fraction of Mg in FeSiMg6RE1 is 0.5~<2.0%, Ca is 5.0~7.0%, Si is 1.5~3.0%, and the rest is Fe. The rare earth content of this alloy is in the range of 4.0%~23.0%, and the magnesium content is in the range of 7.0%~15.0%.

Common sizes include 5-10mm, 5-15mm, 5-25mm, and 5-30mm. Custom sizes can also be customized.

chemical composition

Casting Types Recommended grade Mg content Rare earth content
Ordinary ductile iron castings QRMg7HRE2 6-8% 1.5-2.5% Sufficient magnesium, moderate rare earth content, optimal cost-effectiveness
High-strength ductile iron castings QRMg8HRE3 7-9% 2.5-4.0% A balanced magnesium and rare earth ratio results in high spheroidization rate
Thick and large-section ductile iron castings QRMg8HRE5 7-9% 4.0-6.0% High rare earth content provides strong resistance to fading
Extra-thick and large-section/high-performance castings QRMg8HRE7 7-9% 6.0-8.0% Maximum rare earth content ensures high spheroidization rate in the core
High-sulfur molten iron or special processes QRMg10HRE7 9-11% 6.0-8.0% High magnesium content compensates for sulfur-induced burn-off

Main Uses

1,Alloy additives:

Rare earth silicon magnesium ferro alloy is mainly used as an alloy additive in steel metallurgy. The addition of silicon and magnesium can significantly improve the mechanical properties of steel, such as strength, hardness and corrosion resistance, and also improve the processing performance of steel.

2,The role of rare earth elements:

The addition of rare earth elements to the alloy can improve the thermal stability and corrosion resistance of the alloy and improve the performance of the alloy in high temperature environments.

China is one of the earliest countries to develop, produce and apply rare earth ferrosilicon alloys. With abundant rare earth resources, rare earth modification is used to refine the structure of high chromium cast iron, and corresponding heat treatment processes are used to improve its performance.

As a special alloy material, RE ferro silicon magnesium alloy has important application value in steel metallurgy and other related industrial fields. Through its unique composition and performance advantages, it meets the specific performance requirements of high-performance steel products.

FAQ

Q: If the spheroidizing agent gets damp, can it still be used after drying?

A: It's not recommended. Damp spheroidizing agents have partially oxidized magnesium, and drying won't restore them. Using them will reduce the spheroidizing effect and may even create porosity. Therefore, once damp, it's best to discard them.

Q: Should I choose large or small sizes for the spheroidizing agent?

A: It depends on the size of the molten iron ladle. For small ladles (under 1 ton), choose 5-15mm particles for faster melting; for large ladles (over 5 tons), choose 10-30mm particles for a more stable reaction and less burn-off.

Q: How do I calculate the amount of spheroidizing agent to use?

A: It mainly depends on the sulfur content of the original molten iron. The higher the sulfur content, the greater the amount of spheroidizing agent needed. The general formula is: Spheroidizing agent dosage = (Original sulfur - Target sulfur) × 1.5-2.0. For example, if the original sulfur content is 0.03% and the target sulfur content is 0.01%, the spheroidizing agent dosage is approximately 1.0%-1.5%.

Q: Is the quality of your spheroidizing agents consistent between batches?

A: Consistency is paramount. We test each batch with a spectrometer before shipment to ensure that the fluctuation range of magnesium and rare earth content is controlled within a very small range. Material certificates are included with each shipment.
