Which steelmaking process is suitable for using calcium silicon cored wire?

The following steelmaking processes are more suitable for using calcium silicon cored wire:

Converter steelmaking

 Features

Using molten iron as the main raw material, the carbon and impurity elements in the molten iron react with the blown oxygen to provide heat and remove impurities, with high production efficiency and relatively low cost.

Adaptability

In the later refining stage of converter steelmaking, especially when deoxidizing, desulfurizing and fine-tuning the composition of molten steel, calcium silicon cored wire can play a good role. The calcium silicon cored wire can be accurately added to the ladle through the wire feeding equipment to deeply deoxidize and desulfurize the molten steel, improve the purity of the molten steel, improve the quality of the steel, and adjust the silicon and calcium content in the steel to make the performance of the steel more in line with the requirements.

Electric furnace steelmaking

 Features

Using scrap steel as the main raw material, using the heat generated by electric energy to melt scrap steel and smelt, can accurately control the temperature and smelting atmosphere, and has advantages in producing special steel grades.

Adaptability

During the reduction period or refining period of electric furnace steelmaking, adding calcium silicon cored wire can effectively deoxidize and desulfurize, remove harmful impurities in steel, and improve the purity of steel. For the production of high-alloy steel, precision alloy and other steel types that require extremely high purity and composition control of steel, calcium silicon cored wire can accurately introduce silicon and calcium elements into the molten steel, adjust the composition, and improve the performance of steel, such as improving the toughness and wear resistance of steel.

Out-of-furnace refining process

 Features

The molten steel that has been initially refined in the steelmaking furnace is moved to another container for refining, including ladle treatment type and ladle refining type, etc., which can be degassed, deoxidized, desulfurized, removed inclusions and fine-tuned in composition under vacuum, inert gas or reducing atmosphere.

Adaptability

Calcium silicon cored wire is one of the commonly used materials in out-of-furnace refining. During the ladle refining process, by feeding calcium silicon cored wire, deep deoxidation and desulfurization can be achieved, the morphology and distribution of inclusions can be changed, and the castability of molten steel and the mechanical properties of steel can be improved. For example, when producing special steel grades such as stainless steel and heat-resistant steel, calcium-silicon cored wire can help adjust the silicon and calcium content in the steel, optimize the steel's composition, and improve the steel's corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance and other properties.
