What are the different uses of ferrosilicon with different size?

The size of ferrosilicon directly affects its reaction rate, dispersion uniformity, and utilization efficiency. Different sizes (1-100mm) are suitable for various industries such as steel, casting, and chemicals. Precisely matching the size is key to ensuring production efficiency and product quality.

 

Ferrosilicon Size Classification and Basic Characteristics

 

Fine Particles: 1-5mm (powder/fine particles), 5-10mm (small particles), large specific surface area (3-8m²/g), strong reactivity;
Medium Particles: 10-30mm (medium particles), 10-50mm (medium-coarse particles), good flowability, balanced reaction;
Coarse Particles: 50-100mm (coarse particles), small specific surface area (1-2m²/g), slow reaction rate, suitable for high-temperature, long-term processes;

 

Physical Property Correlation: Smaller size results in a larger contact area with molten steel/iron, leading to a faster reaction rate, but also a tendency to agglomerate; larger size results in a milder reaction and lower loss rate (fine particles have a loss rate of 10%-15%, coarse particles 5%-8%);

Core Advantages: Selecting the appropriate size can increase reaction efficiency by 20%-30% and reduce raw material loss. 5%-10%, adaptable to different production process requirements;

Form and packaging: Fine particles are packaged in moisture-proof valve bags (25kg/bag), medium/coarse particles are packaged in ton bags (1000kg/bag). For international shipping, size range and moisture warnings must be clearly marked.

Application Differences of Ferrosilicon with Different Particle Sizes

 

(1) Fine-grained ferrosilicon (1-10mm): Preferred for high-efficiency reactions

Core suitable scenarios: steelmaking deoxidation, precision casting, chemical catalysis
Steelmaking deoxidation (1-5mm): Large contact area with molten steel, deoxidation reaction rate is 40%-60% faster than coarse-grained, avoiding incomplete local deoxidation;
Precision casting (5-10mm): Uniformly dispersed, easy to melt, can improve the fluidity of alloy liquid, reduce inclusions in castings;

 

(2) Medium-grained ferrosilicon (10-50mm): Mainstay for general scenarios

Core suitable scenarios: ordinary steelmaking, conventional casting, alloy preparation
Balances reaction rate and fluidity, avoids fine particle agglomeration and prevents incomplete reaction of coarse particles, suitable for large-scale production;

 

(3) Coarse-grained ferrosilicon (50-100mm): Suitable for high-temperature long-term processes

Core suitable scenarios: open-hearth steelmaking, large castings, refractory materials
Meltes slowly at high temperature, reaction is mild, can avoid molten steel / The molten iron boils violently, making it suitable for long-term smelting processes;
