Ferrosilicon for deoxidation is a deoxidizer widely used in steel production. Ferrosilicon for deoxidation is mainly composed of silicon (Si) and iron (Fe), and also contains a small amount of manganese (Mn), carbon (C), phosphorus (P), sulfur (S) and other elements. Among them, silicon is the main element for deoxidation. The silicon content of common ferrosilicon for deoxidation is generally between 45% and 75%. Common ones are ferrosilicon 65, ferrosilicon 70, ferrosilicon 72, and ferrosilicon 75. Ferrosilicon with different silicon contents have different deoxidation effects and usage scenarios.

Working principle
During the steel smelting process, silicon has a strong affinity with oxygen. The silicon in ferrosilicon can react chemically with the oxygen in the molten steel to generate silicon dioxide (SiO₂). The reaction equation is: 2Si + 3O₂ = 2SiO₂.
The generated silicon dioxide can further combine with other oxides in the molten steel to form low-melting-point composite oxides. These composite oxides have a lower density than the molten steel and will float on the surface of the molten steel, thereby achieving the purpose of deoxidation and improving the quality and performance of the steel.
Products Features
Strong deoxidation ability:
Ferrosilicon has a high deoxidation efficiency, can quickly and effectively reduce the oxygen content in the molten steel, reduce the oxide inclusions in the steel, and improve the purity of the steel.
Low cost: Compared with some other deoxidizers, the production cost of ferrosilicon is relatively low, the source is wide, and it has good economy in steel production.
Easy to use:
Ferrosilicon is usually made into blocks or granules, which is convenient for storage, transportation and addition during steelmaking. The addition amount can be accurately controlled according to the requirements of steel type and production process.
Application scenario
Converter steelmaking:
In the later stage of converter blowing, ferrosilicon is added to the molten steel for deoxidation and alloying, and the silicon content in the molten steel is adjusted to make the composition of the steel meet the specified standards. At the same time, oxygen in the molten steel is removed to improve the quality of the steel.
Electric furnace steelmaking:
In the process of electric furnace steelmaking, ferrosilicon is also one of the commonly used deoxidizers. Adding it during the melting and refining periods can effectively reduce the oxygen content in the steel and improve the performance of the steel, especially for the production of high-quality alloy steel and stainless steel.
Casting industry:
In cast iron production, ferrosilicon can not only be used as a deoxidizer, but also play a role in inoculation and spheroidization, which can improve the metallographic structure of cast iron and improve the strength, toughness and wear resistance of cast iron.
