98% silicon metal powder is the most widely used industrial-grade silicon powder on the market. It's cheaper than high-purity powder (99% or higher) and cleaner than 97% secondary powder, making it a primary raw material for many refractory material plants, steel mills, and chemical plants.

 

Simply put, if you are producing:

 Refractory materials (blast furnace clay, trough mix, castables)

 Steelmaking deoxidizers

How to choose the size? Match it to your specific process:

50-100目(medium particles) Refractory aggregate This size is ideal for making clay and trough filler.

1. Refractory Material Plants (Largest Customer)

For plants producing blast furnace taphole clay, trough lining, and castables, silicon metal powder is a crucial raw material. It forms mullite at high temperatures, improving the slag resistance and high-temperature strength of refractory materials.

Recommended Grade: Refractory grade (98.5%)

 

2. Steel Plants (Deoxidizer)

Some steel plants use silicon metal powder instead of ferrosilicon blocks for deoxidation. The advantage of using powder is faster reaction and less burn-off. However, it's important to note that excessively fine powder can easily cause smoke; coarse particles of 20-50 mesh are best.

3. Chemical Plants (Organosilicon Intermediates, Silanes)

Silicon powder reacts with chloromethane in a fluidized bed to produce organosilicon monomers. This application requires high purity and size.

Recommended grade: Chemical grade (99.0%), low aluminum and calcium content

 

4. Production of silica and silica sol

After dissolving and precipitating silicon metal powder, it can be made into silica (rubber reinforcing agent) or silica sol (coating additive).

Q: What's the price difference between 98% and 99% silicon powder? Which should I buy?

A: 99% is more expensive than 98%, it depends on the market. For refractory materials and steel deoxidation, 98% is sufficient. For organosilicon and silane production, 99% is recommended as it has lower impurities and better reactivity.

 

Q: What is the 325-mesh sieve pass rate for your powder?

Q: What's the difference between metallic silicon powder and ferrosilicon powder?

A: Metallic silicon powder is pure silicon (Si≥97%), while ferrosilicon powder is a fesi alloy (Si 65%-75%, Fe 20%-30%).silicon metal powder has higher purity and is suitable for chemical and refractory materials; ferrosilicon powder is cheaper and suitable for steel deoxidation. Q: Will the powder clump together if stored for a long time?
