Calcium silicon powder and calcium silicon cored wire have the same core components (usually containing 20%-35% Ca and 55%-75% Si), but their morphology and process design differ, resulting in significant differences in basic properties:

| Key Advantages | Large specific surface area, fast reaction speed; low cost | Uniform composition, no dust pollution; high recovery rate |
| Key Parameters | Loose Packing Density: 1.2-1.5 g/cm³, Purity: ≥95% | Core-Wrapping Rate: 25%-30%, Steel Sheet Thickness: 0.3-0.5 mm |

| Operation Method | Manual or mechanical direct feeding | A dedicated wire feeder feeds the molten steel into the deep part of the molten steel at a uniform speed. |

Comparison of Core Functions and Application Effects
Both materials achieve deoxidation, desulfurization, and inoculation functions, but due to different addition methods, their effects differ significantly:
(1) Deoxidation and Desulfurization Effects
CaSi powder: The powder has a large contact area with molten steel, resulting in a fast reaction rate (deoxidation reaction completion time is 3-5 minutes), but it easily floats on the surface of molten steel and is partially encased by slag, leading to a low element recovery rate (Ca recovery rate 30%-40%, Si recovery rate 60%-70%). It is suitable for deoxidation and desulfurization of ordinary steel and cast iron where recovery rate requirements are not high, reducing the oxygen content of molten steel from 80-100ppm to 40-60ppm, with a desulfurization rate of 40%-50%.
CaSi cored wire: Inserted deep into the molten steel (1.5-2.0m) via a wire feeder, it avoids element burn-off, increasing Ca recovery to 60%-70% and Si recovery to 80%-90%. Deoxidation and desulfurization effects are more stable, reducing the oxygen content of the molten steel to 30-40ppm and achieving a desulfurization rate of 60%-70%, suitable for high-quality steel production (such as bearing steel and ductile iron).
(2) Inoculation and Alloying Effects
Silicon calcium powder: When used as an inoculant in the casting field, the addition amount is 0.2%-0.5% of the molten iron mass. It can promote graphitization and refine grains, but it is prone to agglomeration, leading to uneven reaction and significant fluctuations in casting performance (impact toughness deviation ±10%).
Silicon calcium cored wire: During feeding, the steel sheet melts, and the powder is evenly dispersed, resulting in stable inoculation. The graphite spheroidization rate of the casting increases from 80% to over 95%, with mechanical property fluctuations ≤5%, suitable for precision castings and high-end alloy production.
(3) Process Adaptability and Environmental Friendliness
SiCa powder: Dust is easily generated during feeding (dust concentration can reach 50-80mg/m³), requiring dust removal equipment; manual feeding is labor-intensive and difficult to accurately control the amount added (error ±15%).
SiCa cored wire: No dust pollution (dust concentration <10mg/m³), meeting environmental protection requirements; the wire feeder accurately controls the feeding speed (1-5m/s) and length, with an addition error ≤5%, suitable for automated production lines.
Selection Logic and Applicable Scenarios
(1) Scenarios where calciumsilicon powder is preferred
Equipment conditions:
Small electric furnace, induction furnace for casting (furnace capacity <50t), without a wire feeder;
Product requirements:
Ordinary carbon steel, aluminum alloy for construction, general cast iron parts, with moderate requirements for recovery rate and performance stability;
Cost considerations:
Limited budget, pursuit of high cost-effectiveness, and acceptance of certain performance fluctuations.
(2) Scenarios where siliconcalcium cored wire is preferred:
Equipment requirements:
Converter, large electric furnace (furnace capacity ≥ 50t), continuous casting production line, equipped with a dedicated wire feeder;
Product requirements:
High-quality steel (such as spring steel, ductile iron for wind power flanges), precision castings, with strict requirements for deoxidation and desulfurization efficiency and performance stability;
Process requirements:
Automated production, high environmental protection requirements (such as environmental control areas such as Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and Yangtze River Delta region), requiring reduction of dust and manual operation.

Precautions for use
(1) Key points for using siliconcalcium powder:
Addition amount control:
0.3%-0.8% for steelmaking, 0.2%-0.5% for casting. Excessive addition can easily generate CaC₂ hard and brittle phase, reducing the toughness of steel/cast iron;
Feeding method:
Feed evenly in batches to avoid agglomeration caused by large-scale feeding at one time;
Storage conditions:
Moisture-proof and ventilated to avoid oxidation and agglomeration (agglomeration requires crushing and screening before use).
(2) Key Points for Using CalciumSilicon Cored Wire
Feeding Parameters:
Adjust the feeding speed according to the depth of the molten steel (1-3 m/s) to ensure the cored wire is completely melted in the molten steel;
Matching Steel Grades:
High-calcium grades (such as Ca31Si55) are suitable for deoxidation and desulfurization applications, while high-silicon grades (such as Ca28Si60) are suitable for inoculation applications;
Storage Conditions:
Avoid direct sunlight and humid environments to prevent rusting of the steel sheet, which could affect feeding smoothness.
