What is ferro silicon chromium alloy?

Chromium silicon alloy is a composite ferro alloy that plays a key role in steel and related industries. chromium silicon alloy is an alloy containing silicon, chromium, iron and a small amount of other elements made by electric furnace smelting with chromium ore, silica, coke and other raw materials as the main raw materials. The main components are silicon (Si), chromium (Cr) and iron (Fe). Common chromium silicon alloys contain 30% - 40% silicon, 25% - 35% chromium, and the rest is iron and a small amount of impurities such as carbon, phosphorus, sulfur, etc. The content of each element in chromium silicon alloys for different purposes will be adjusted.

Steelmaking industry

As a deoxidizer, silicon and chromium in chromium silicon alloy react with oxygen in molten steel to generate silicon dioxide and chromium oxide, reduce the oxygen content in steel, prevent defects such as pores and looseness caused by oxygen, and improve the purity and quality of steel. At the same time, it is also an important alloying agent. Chromium can improve the hardenability, wear resistance, corrosion resistance and high temperature strength of steel, and silicon can increase the strength, hardness and elastic limit of steel. Therefore, it is widely used in the production of various alloy steels such as stainless steel, heat-resistant steel, and ball bearing steel.

Casting industry

Adding chromium silicon alloy during the casting process can refine the grains, improve the organizational structure of the casting, and improve the strength, hardness and wear resistance of the casting. It is often used to produce wear-resistant castings and high-strength castings, such as the lining of mining machinery, the hammer of the crusher, and the key components of automobile engines, etc., to extend the service life of the castings.

Other fields

In the production of ferroalloys, chromium silicon alloy can be used as a raw material for the production of other ferroalloys such as medium-carbon ferrochrome and low-carbon ferrochrome. In the manufacture of welding materials, adding chromium silicon alloy can transition alloy elements to the weld metal, improve the strength, toughness and corrosion resistance of the weld, and ensure the welding quality. It is especially suitable for the welding of special steels such as stainless steel.
