The difference between inoculant and Nodulizer is finally clear

Inoculants and Nodulizers are mostly used in casting. What are the differences and connections between inoculants and Nodulizers? Let's talk about the manufacturers of inoculants and Nodulizers:

Introduction to inoculants:

Inoculant is a kind of agent that can promote graphitization, reduce the tendency of whitening, improve the shape and distribution of graphite, increase the number of eutectic groups, and refine the matrix structure. It has an effect in a short time (about 5-8 minutes) after the inoculation treatment. good effect. Mainly suitable for general accidents or late-stage instantaneous production in various situations.

Inoculation treatment refers to adding a small amount of other substances to the liquid metal during the solidification process to promote nucleation, inhibit growth, and achieve the purpose of refining the grains. Traditionally, adding additives to cast iron is called inoculation treatment; adding additives to non-ferrous alloys is called modification treatment. In essence, inoculation treatment mainly affects nucleation and promotes grain dissociation; while metamorphic treatment changes the growth mechanism of crystals (inhibiting growth), thus affecting the crystal morphology.

Inoculant effect:

1

Strongly increase the graphitization core, refine the graphite, promote the acquisition of A-type graphite in gray iron castings, and improve the strength. For ductile iron castings, it can make the graphite in ductile iron fine and round, and improve the spheroidization level.

2

It can effectively reduce the supercooling degree of molten iron, promote the precipitation of graphite, significantly reduce the tendency of white spots, reduce the relative hardness, and improve the cutting performance of castings.

3

Strong anti-recession ability. The anti-recession time is twice that of 75 silicon. The addition amount of barium silicon inoculant is less than half of that of 75 ferrosilicon inoculant, while preventing the associated spheroidization recession.

4

The wall thickness is less sensitive, improving the uniformity of the cross section and reducing the tendency of shrinkage and porosity.

5

The chemical composition is stable, the processing particle size is uniform, and the composition and quality deviation are small.

6

The melting point is low (lower than 1300°), which makes it easy to absorb melt during inoculation and has very little dross.

Introduction to Nodulizer:

Also known as rare earth magnesium ferro-silicon alloy, it is an additive that can promote the crystallization of graphite in ductile cast iron into spherical shapes. It is generally used in the field of cast iron. During the casting process, the additive added to the molten iron to precipitate graphite in a spherical shape is called a Nodulizer, and contains rare earth The Nodulizer of elements is called rare earth Nodulizer

The function of Nodulizer:

 Spheroidization: Make flake graphite into a spherical shape

 Anti-recession, allowing the spherical graphite to remain deformed for a long time

Nodulizer application:

 Nodulizing agent, vermicularizing agent and inoculant for cast iron. Rare earth FeSiMg alloy, also known as magnesium alloy Nodulizer, is a good inoculant with high mechanical strength and strong deoxidation and desulfurization effects;

 Additives for steelmaking: The light rare earth magnesium ferrosilicon alloy used in the production of Nodulizers, creeping agents, and inoculants is also used as additives and alloying agents in the production of steel and iron. Used for refining, deoxidation, denaturation, neutralization of harmful impurities with low melting points (Pb, arsenic, etc.) and solid solution alloying to form new metal compounds to purify steel;

In short, the inoculant mainly promotes graphitization, reduces the whitening tendency, improves the morphology and distribution of graphite, increases the number of eutectic clusters, and refines the matrix structure. The Nodulizer can promote the crystallization of graphite in ball-milled cast iron into a spherical shape.
