High Quality Blast Furnace Slag
Blast furnace slag is a waste slag discharged from the blast furnace during the smelting of pig iron. When smelting pig iron, the raw materials added to the blast furnace include iron ore and fuel (coke), as well as flux. When the furnace temperature reaches 1400~1600℃, the flux reacts with the iron ore at high temperature to generate pig iron and slag. Blast furnace slag is a fusible mixture composed of gangue, ash, flux and other impurities that cannot enter the pig iron. From the chemical composition point of view, blast furnace slag is a silicate material.
The amount of blast furnace slag emitted per 1 ton of pig iron produced varies with the grade of the ore and the smelting method. For example, when iron-poor iron ore is used to make iron, 1.0 to 1.2 tons of blast furnace slag is produced per ton of pig iron; when iron-rich ore is used to make iron, only 0.25 tons of blast furnace slag is produced per ton of pig iron. Due to the improvement of modern mineral processing and iron-making technology, the amount of blast furnace slag produced per ton of pig iron has been greatly reduced.

There are two main methods for classifying blast furnace slag
Classification according to the types of smelted pig iron
Casting pig iron slag is the slag discharged when smelting cast iron.
Steelmaking pig iron slag is the slag discharged when smelting pig iron for steelmaking.
Special pig iron slag is the slag discharged when pig iron is smelted from iron ore containing other metals.
Distinguish between the sum of basic oxides and the sum of acidic oxides in the chemical composition of blast furnace slag according to the alkalinity of the slag
The ratio of sum is called the alkalinity or alkalinity rate of blast furnace slag (expressed in M,), that is
M0=(CaO%+MgO)%)/(SiO%+Al2O3)%)
According to the alkalinity rate (M0) of blast furnace slag, the slag can be divided into the following three categories:
①Alkaline slag is slag with alkalinity rate Mn>1.
② Slag with neutral slag alkalinity rate M0=1.
③Acidic slag is slag with alkalinity rate M0<1.

Blast furnace slag uses
Blast furnace slag can be used to produce slag cement, to make high-performance concrete admixtures, to produce inorganic coatings, to produce slag fibers, to be used in road projects, to be used as railway ballast, and to use water-quenched blast furnace slag to make burn-free Brick etc.
Production tests show that when slag powder is used in cement and concrete, it can not only greatly reduce production costs, but also improve the performance and quality of cement and concrete, which is widely recognized and welcomed by the building materials market.
