Granulated Blast Furnace Slag

When pig iron is smelted in a blast furnace, the resulting melt with silicates and aluminosilicates as its main components is quenched and granulated to become granulated blast furnace slag.

The mainstream steelmaking methods in the world today are mainly divided into two types: one is the blast furnace and converter (BOF) steelmaking method, and the other is the electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaking method. Currently, around the world, the output of raw steel produced by blast furnace and converter methods accounts for about 71% of the total output, and the output of electric arc furnace steelmaking accounts for 29%. Blast furnace slag is a waste slag discharged from blast furnace ironmaking.

The processing methods of blast furnace slag are mainly divided into three products: water quenching slag, air-cooled slag and granulated slag according to different cooling methods.

1,Water quenching slag refers to blast furnace water quenching slag particles with a particle size of less than 5 mm formed by rapid cooling of cold water. It is a powder material made from blast furnace water quenching slag as the main raw material after drying and grinding. Finely ground blast furnace slag powder.

2,Blast furnace slag powder contains 80% to 90% glass and has potential hydraulic properties. It can be used in concrete to increase concrete strength and improve durability. It is mostly used in cement plants as mixing materials and concrete mixing stations as admixtures.

3,Air-cooled slag refers to the massive particles formed by blast furnace slag that is slowly cooled in the air and then processed through crushing, screening, etc. It is generally used in highway construction or concrete to replace part of natural sand and gravel.
Granulated slag refers to particles with a particle size of less than 20 mm formed by granulation treatment after blast furnace slag is rapidly cooled in the air. The finer particles can be used as cement mixing materials after crushing, grinding, etc., and the coarser particles can be used as cement mixing materials. After crushing, screening and other processing, it is used as lightweight aggregate in concrete.
