Ferro silicon alloy lump is an important alloy material, mainly composed of silicon and iron.Silicon usually the content is between 15%-90%, increasing the strength and oxidation resistance of the alloy.Iron as the main component, it provides the matrix of the alloy. It is usually used in fields such as metallurgy and materials science. It is smelted via submerged arc furnace carbothermal reduction reaction with quartz, coke and scrap iron as raw materials, mainly composed of silicon and iron, with controllable trace Al/Ca/Mn/Cr/P/S impurities.


Common industrial grades cover FeSi65, FeSi75 (A/B low-carbon series), FeSi90 high-silicon lump products. FeSi lump integrates three core functions: molten steel deoxidation, alloy strengthening and cast iron graphitization inoculation. Our factory supports customized sizes from 0~1mm fine powder to 10–100 large lumps, stable batch composition for steel mills, ductile iron foundries, welding material and silicon chemical manufacturers worldwide.

Metallurgical Working Principles

 

Molten Steel Deep Deoxidation

Silicon has strong oxygen affinity, reacts with dissolved O to form low-density SiO₂ slag floating out, reduces porosity, hot brittleness defects of steel. FeSi75% only needs 3–5kg per ton steel for full pre-deoxidation and final deoxidation.

Alloy Solid Solution Strengthening

Silicon dissolves into ferrite matrix to improve tensile strength, hardness and elastic limit; it is the essential raw material for grain-oriented electrical silicon steel (Si content 3–5%).

Cast Iron Graphitization Inoculation

FerroSilicon fine particles form heterogeneous crystal nuclei in molten iron, restrain supercooling & white cast tendency, refine graphite flakes/nodules, raise casting machinability and mechanical properties. Adding 0.5–1kg FeSi per ton molten iron for engine ductile iron castings.

A: FeSi65 low silicon, lowest cost for ordinary steel; FeSi75 universal grade for most steel & casting; FeSi90 high silicon, low impurity for organosilicon and electrical steel.

Q2: Which size lump to choose for converter direct feeding?

A: 10–100mm large FeSi lump, slow melting, less splashing and oxidation loss.

Q3: What is the standard addition amount of FeSi75 in steelmaking?

A: 3–5 kg FeSi75 per ton molten steel for full deoxidation; 0.5–1kg per ton iron for ductile iron inoculation. Small furnace trial test recommended for new formulas.
