Ferrosilicon lumps of 10-100mm are the most commonly used size in steel mills. Fesi alloy of this size sinks deep into the molten steel when dropped into a ladle, avoiding being trapped and burned by the slag, resulting in high deoxidation efficiency.

 

How to further subdivide 10-100mm lumps?

 

Granularity range Suitable for whom Why
10-50mm Small and medium-sized steel ladles (≤100 tons), or applications requiring rapid response Medium-sized pieces melt quickly, resulting in even mixing of the molten steel.
50-100mm Large steel ladles (≥100 tons), or applications with thick slag layers Large pieces, due to their weight, can penetrate thick slag layers and sink deep into the molten steel, minimizing burn-off.

 

For smaller ladles and faster processing, use 10-50mm lumps; for larger ladles and thicker slag layers, use 50-100mm lumps.

Selection Recommendations:

 

For producing HRB400E earthquake-resistant rebar: We recommend FeSi75Al1.0-B or FeSi75-B, with moderate aluminum content to avoid nozzle clogging.

For producing cold heading steel and spring steel requiring strict titanium (Ti) control: We can provide custom-grade 75# ferrosilicon with Ti ≤ 0.03%.

For export to the EU requiring REACH compliance: Our standard export-grade FeSi75 meets RoHS requirements for Cr, P, and S content, and a test report is provided with the shipment.

How do we ensure uniform size?

 

Raw materials (silica, semi-coke, steel scrap) are smelted in an electric arc furnace to obtain ferrosilicon lumps with a silicon content of 72–75%. Unlike some small plants that simply crush large ingots and sieve them, our standard process is as follows:

Coarse Crushing: Jaw crushers crush large ingots to ≤150mm.

Magnetic Separation: Removes mechanical iron that may have been mixed in during crushing (reducing the iron content of the finished product by 0.2–0.5%).

Three-Stage Screening: Separates the ingots into 50–100mm and 10–50mm sizes using 50mm and 10mm mesh screens respectively. Powder smaller than 10mm is recycled and remelted.

Final Inspection: One sample is taken from every 200 tons for ICP-OES analysis of Si, Al, Ca, Mn, Cr, P, and S. Batch test reports are ensured to be included with the shipment.

FAQ

 

Q: What's the price difference between 10-50mm and 50-100mm?

A: 50-100mm pieces are usually a little cheaper than 10-50mm pieces because they skip the crushing and screening process. If your ladle is large and you don't require very fine size, buying 50-100mm is more cost-effective.

Q: Will large ferrosilicon pieces contain powder? I'm worried about too much powder causing smoke and waste.

A: Our large pieces are all screened, and the powder rate is controlled within 3%. If you find too much powder when you receive the goods, you can tell us, and we will screen them again next time.

Q: How much is the price difference between Grade A and Grade B?

A: Grade A is more expensive than Grade B, depending on the market. For ordinary rebar and wire rod, Grade B is sufficient; for export steel, alloy steel, or steel with strict composition requirements, Grade A is more reliable.

Q: Is the size of your 10-100mm pieces consistent between batches?

A: Yes, it is. We sieve every batch of goods before they leave the factory to ensure that over 90% of the particles are within your specified range. There won't be a bunch of small pieces mixed in with large ones.
