Product Introduction

Black Silicon Carbide (Black SiC) Powder is a high-performance artificial refractory and abrasive material. It is synthesized by high-temperature resistance furnace smelting with high-purity quartz sand and petroleum coke as raw materials,

With a Mohs hardness of 9.15-9.5, it is second only to diamond and cubic boron nitride. It features excellent thermal conductivity, thermal shock resistance and chemical inertness. Our products are divided into multiple purity grades (SiC 88/90/97/98) and various particle sizes, widely used in abrasive tools, high-temperature refractories, metallurgical additives and photovoltaic precision processing. We also provide SiC briquettes for metallurgical scenarios and customized products for global clients.

Core Application Areas

6.1 Abrasives & Surface Treatment (Core Application)
Bonded Abrasives: Manufacture ceramic/resin grinding wheels, grinding stones. Ideal for cast iron, non-ferrous metals, glass and stone; low clogging and high cutting efficiency.
Coated Abrasives: Raw material for sandpaper, abrasive belts. Widely used in woodworking, metal deburring and paint removal.
Free Grinding & Blasting: For tumble polishing, vibratory finishing and sandblasting. Remove oxide scale and rust, create uniform matte surface.
6.2 Refractory & Advanced Ceramics
High-temperature Refractories: Used for SiC bricks, kiln furniture, crucibles and burner tubes. Improve slag resistance and thermal stability of industrial kilns.
Structural Ceramics: Sinter into mechanical seals, wear-resistant liners and nozzles for mechanical and chemical equipment.
Ceramic Glaze Carrier: Uniform heat conduction during firing, reduce deformation and glaze adhesion, raise finished product yield.
6.3 Iron & Steel & Foundry Metallurgy
Carbon Raiser: High carbon absorption rate for electric furnace and cupola furnace, improve molten iron fluidity.
Deoxidizer: React with oxygen in molten steel to reduce oxide inclusions and enhance steel compactness.
Inoculant Additive: Refine graphite structure for ductile iron and special castings.
6.4 Photovoltaic & Semiconductor Precision Machining
High-purity SiC micro powder is used for monocrystalline/polycrystalline silicon wafer cutting, thinning and lapping. It is a key consumable for solar cells and semiconductor substrate processing, ensuring ultra-smooth and damage-free surface.

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between black silicon carbide (Black SiC) and green silicon carbide (Green SiC)?

A: The main difference lies in purity. Green silicon carbide has higher purity (typically >99%), more brittle crystals, and sharper edges, primarily used for processing hard and brittle materials such as cemented carbide and optical glass. Black silicon carbide has slightly lower purity but better toughness, making it more suitable for processing materials with lower tensile strength (such as cast iron and stone) and in the refractory and metallurgical fields, and it is also more cost-effective.

Q: How do I choose the appropriate particle size and purity for my process?

A: This depends on the end application:

For manufacturing resin-coated grinding wheels/coated abrasives: Medium size (#24-#120 mesh) is typically used, with a purity of SiC 90 or 97.

For manufacturing refractory bricks/kiln furniture: Depending on the formulation, aggregates from 1mm to 5mm and finer matrix powders are used, with a purity of SiC 88 or 90.

Metallurgical carburization: Commonly used sizes are 0-5mm or 1-10mm, with SiC 90 or 88 briquettes.

Wafer cutting/polishing: High-purity (SiC 98 and above) micronized powders (such as W7, W10) must be used.

Q: What precautions should be taken when storing?

A: Store in a dry, well-ventilated warehouse, avoiding contact with acids, alkalis, and other chemicals. Fine powder products require special attention to moisture protection to prevent affecting their flowability and performance.
