Petroleum coke refers to a solid carbonaceous material made from petroleum asphalt through a high-temperature and high-pressure pyrolysis process. It is an important petrochemical raw material and is widely used in metallurgy, chemical industry, electric power, carbon, aluminum and other fields. There are two main processes for producing petroleum coke: wet process and dry process. Wet coking is a method of heating crude oil to boil to obtain tar and coke, while dry coking is a method of directly converting high-quality crude oil into tar and coke.

1,Chemical composition and properties: Petroleum coke is mainly composed of carbon, usually containing more than about 98% fixed carbon, a small amount of sulfur, ash and volatile matter. It has a high fixed carbon content, a large calorific value, good chemical stability and high temperature resistance.

2,Application in the metallurgical industry: Petroleum coke is widely used as a fuel and reducing agent for steelmaking in the metallurgical industry. It can replace metallurgical coke and be used in blast furnace smelting, providing high calorific value and stable carbon content, which helps to improve steelmaking efficiency and reduce energy consumption.

3,Aluminum electrolysis use: Petroleum coke is an important anode material in the aluminum electrolysis industry. As the anode in the electrolytic cell, it reduces aluminum ore to aluminum metal through the electrolysis process, and its stable chemical properties and electrical conductivity are crucial to the electrolysis process.

4,Fuel and energy: Due to its high calorific value and stability, petroleum coke can also be used as a fuel for industrial boilers and power plants, providing a stable supply of heat energy.

5,Other applications: Petroleum coke is also used as a raw material for carbon electrodes, used in the production of high-tech materials such as artificial graphite and carbon fiber, and in the synthesis of some special chemicals.
